HTML: hypertext markup language. This is the "code" used in writing Web pages. HTML is meant to describe WHAT an element on the page is not how it should look.
Server: A computer and program that will deliver files to a client on request.
Client: A computer and program that will ask for files from a server and render them for a human.
HTTP: Hypertext Transfer Protocol. This is the machine commands used to move Web pages between the client and the server.
CSS: Cascading Style Sheets. These are the commands used to define how an element on the screen should look.
Java: A programming language developed by SUN Microsystems. It is commonly used in Web programming because of its versatility.
CGI: Common Gateway Interface. This is a standard for programs to obtain information from servers.
WWW: The World Wide Web.

URI: uniform resource identifier. This is a string that identifies a particular Web resource. It is the target of an HTML link.
W3C: The World Wide Web Consortium. Their mission: TO lead the World Wide Web to its full potential by developing proptplcs and guidelines that ensure long-term growth for the Web. They determine most of the protocols for the Web.
WYSIWYG: Acronym for What You See Is What You Get.
FTP: File Transfer Protocol. This allows files to be moved between two computers.
